Cost-per-mile calculator

Roughly what a shoe costs you per mile and per year, given its price and how long its category typically lasts. A useful way to compare "cheap" vs "expensive" shoes over their real life.

Cost per mile

Cost per 10,000 steps

Estimated annual cost

Assumes ~2,000 steps per mile. Estimates only — real durability depends on your weight, gait and surfaces. When a midsole loses its bounce or the outsole wears smooth, it is time to retire the shoe regardless of mileage.

Foot-width finder

Width is the most common reason a shoe doesn't fit. Measure at the end of the day (feet swell) with your usual socks on.

  1. 1

    Trace

Stand on paper, trace both feet. Measure the widest part (across the ball) in millimetres.

  2. 2

    Check the gap

In the shoe, you want about a thumb's width (8–10 mm) between your longest toe and the end.

  3. 3

    Interpret

If your midfoot spills over the sole edge or your toes feel pinched, go up a width (or try a foot-shaped toe box).

Full guidance, including women's/men's width letters (B, D, 2E, 4E) and size conversions, is in the fit, sizing & width guide.
